The Animals Went in Two by Two, Hurrah!

Well, the Gods have spoken. This new prince clearly displeased them the moment he came into this world, and to show us their umbrage, they've decided to drown us. There is no other explanation for the sudden switch up from toasty 25 degree sunshine filled days, to what can only be described as the prelude to Noah's Ark: The Sequel.

Myself and every other Brit is now kicking themselves for ever complaining about sweaty boobs, broken air con or burnt shoulders, 'cos by the looks of it, those sweet sweet days of sweltering heat are behind us. Welcome back soggy pumps and frizzy, insufferable barnets.

Buuuuut, if you want an upside, then there's always the fun of picking out a new, snazzy mac to whip out at the next downpour. And there was me last week, scoffing dismissively at all the waterproof-wear gracing my usual high street haunts, as I dashed past them in the direction of the nearest crop top...

Here's some of my choice raincoats du jour.

Winning Whites

WHOOOOOO MURRAY!!! How amazing was that match?! When he hit the ball and the other guy hit it back, and occasionally it hit the net, or one of them missed it... ok, I didn't actually see the match, but I'm all about having something to celebrate, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Since this is a fashion blog and since I know very little about tennis or the players (for some reason I keep calling Murray 'Henman', even though I'm pretty sure he's been retired for over 5 years) I thought I'd give my little homage to Andy in the form of a slideshow where celebrities showcase some striking white ensembles. Yes, this is just my attempt to make a tedious link between tennis whites and the white fashion trend, but I don't think it'll be long before other bloggers, journalists and fashion conscientious folk start to forge a link between those walking the streets in summer whites and Andy's Wimbledon triumph, so I thought I'd get this party started (or join the party, as the case may be).

Here's some celebs looking sparkling fresh in (mostly) head to toe white for your voyeuristic pleasure...

Be Bold, Be Bright

Apparently it's not just me who's bumming brights right now, Zara has got a smorgasbord of amazing matchy-matchy summer colours all over the shop (both literal and idiomatic meanings apply) with some bangin' blazer and trouser combos that I drooled over this afternoon. If only I had a garden party or some other champagne socialite event where I could showcase one in all its glory.. although I'm sure I could cope with a few sideways glances down the pub if such an event doesn't crop up.

I'm going to flip through my diary and see if there's anything I can use as complete and unequivocal justification for purchasing one of these excellent ensembles, but in the meantime, here are two creations I've made just to torture myself..

All Things Bright and Beautiful

Think Pink

Monday 10 June 2013

Urban Womad

Since I appear to have NO jolly holiday on the horizon this summer, I have taken to living vicariously though my clothes. Instead of seeing the cascades of backpacker-esque clothing infiltrating the high street this season as a bitter reminder that I am in fact NOT lying on a beach somewhere with the sun in my face, a g&t in my hand and a bright, fabulous sarong slung over my (probably very pink) shoulders, I have decided to see it as a personal challenge to bring the spirit of travel to the streets of Glasgow.

Just because we struggle to scrape highs of 20 degrees, doesn't mean that we aren't entitled to indulge in a sun dress at the first available opportunity!

So, even though I'm pretty sure that our standard '1 week of sunshine a year' allowance has just expired, I refuse to slowly creep back to the chunky knits and nylon leg prisons (or tights as they are more commonly known) of yestermonth. I am showcasing exotic patterns, jelly sandals and bare legs this summer, so help me God! and no amount of lukewarm, sideways rain is going to change that.
You hear me clouds..? Yeh, you 'eard.

New Looks at New Look

Whoop Whoop! I've just scored a job at New Look (totally impromptu rhyme there) so I'm now on the hunt for some badass workwear.

I've already managed to steal a peek at the rails on the shop floor while I was being whisked around for my induction so I've got a few mental notes. So far I'm thinking of channeling the likes of Rihianna and Rita Ora for the more colour poppin' and excessive accessories looks and Kate Bosworth and Alexa Chung for the more basic, minimal, chic styles.

Once I get given the all clear to go nuts on the shop floor, I'll post some looks so you guys can see what I plan to be showcasing while I tend to the people of Glasgow's retail needs. For now though, I've put together a little carousel of lust list items that took my fancy, so have a scan through and see what you think.

New Look Summer '13

Off-Day Pays Off

Went and got papped on Buchanan Street last week by The Evening Times. I don't want to sound like 'that guy' when I say this, and I know i'm going to, but I genuinely threw this outfit together that morning, deciding that I was going to have an 'off-duty' day.

The shirt was bundled up on my chair and the leggings (i'm ashamed to say) were crumpled in a mound of previously worn clothes on the floor. Sorry mum. It was a very 'they'll do' attitude, which is very out of character for me, which i'm going to put down to the endless reel of rubbish weather we've been having. The same rubbish weather that inspired my choice of footwear. Now don't get me wrong, I bum these boots. They are my bezzies. But seeing as it is May, I normally try to put these babies down for their summer hibernation. BUT NO! It's still cold. It's still wet. It's still boot-time. So I opted for practicality, refusing to further batter my poor little pumps who evidently just cant seem to hack it in anything less than a cool summer day. The beanie hat, while very of-the-moment thanks to that hot piece of ass, Cara, was also donned for practical (ish) purposes. Namely that I hadn't bothered to wash my hair. Again, sorry mum. The boyfriend coat is just my go-to top layer right now as we're definitely out of faux fur season, but still just shy of light cardigan season.

I do just think the glasses were the saving grace of this outfit, salvaging me from the brink of trawler-man chic, and tipping me into the realms of stylish city slicker. I think the lesson that we can all take from this is never to underestimate the power of a good pair of sunnies.... and that apparently clothes don't have to be clean to be cool.
